1982 Records
Milwaukee Brewers: 3-3 (2nd in AL East)
Texas Rangers: 2-3 (6th in AL West)
After dominating the Blue Jays in two of three games in the opening series, the Brewers were brought back to reality when the Indians took two of three and replaced them atop the American League East.
While the Crew may be 3-3, this is a team showing some significant flaws. When they aren’t scoring 10 runs (like they averaged the first four games), they struggle. The pitching is not capable of winning games.
How bad is it? Ace Pete Vuckovich has a 6.75 ERA. Mike Caldwell’s is 6.97. Moose Haas “betters” them both at 8.31. The oft-forgotten Bob McClure is the only Brewers starter to take the mound so far whose ERA is under six (3.86).
In other words, the struggling Texas Rangers couldn’t come to Milwaukee at a better time. The early ERA’s of the starters the Rangers will be propping on the mound (all over seven) make the Brewers’ look Cy Young worthy.
It looks like offense will be showcased in this series. So it’s time for Brewers bats to wake up.
It’s the home opening series, so the crowd will be in the Crew’s favor. Will you be there?
Roy Howell Update: He’s still on the roster, he’s still worthless, and he still hasn’t accepted his role as back-up to the back-up. Trade him!
