Brewers Lose Fourth Straight

April 17

Rangers 5, Brewers 3
Brewers now 3-5 (5th)
Box Score | Season Schedule

Roy Howell
Roy Howell needs to go. Maybe he'll be happier playing for a terrible team like the Blue Jays again.

At a time like this, we could dwell on the negatives. In an effort to keep our sanity, let’s first talk about what went right today…

1) For the first time in three games, the Brewers’ offense scored more than a run and collected more than four hits. Sure, three runs on seven hits is nothing special, but we’re remaining positive.

2) Larry Hisle broke out of his funk to get his first hit since Opening Day, including his first homer of the season. Nice to have you back, Larry.

3) Bob McClure is the lone bright spot on this pitching staff. He allowed two runs on five hits in 5 2/3 innings and now has a respectable 3.65 ERA.

You see? Even the positives are infiltrated with negative snarkiness. We can’t avoid it. So let’s talk it out:

1) Dwight Bernard is freaking terrible. He was terrible this spring. He allowed two runs on six hits in 3 2/3 innings today to LOWER his ERA to 6.14. Meanwhile, pitchers who actually earned a right to make this team are still in Vancouver.

2) What was Larry Hisle doing hitting second in the lineup? Prior to today’s game he was 1-for-20 and is still only 2-for-23. Don’t you want a player who is slumping like that at the bottom of your order?

3) This team plays no defense. Paul Molitor committed his third error today and Romero his second. In eight games, the Brewers have committed 10 errors and at least one in six of their games. That’s not going to help your struggling pitching, folks.

4) Roy Howell needs to go. Roy Howell is ticked off that he’s not playing more. Yet Roy Howell is hitting .100 this season. Get rid of him. Trade him, release him, whatever you have to do. He’s only a negative for this team.

Rollie Fingers didn’t pitch today, otherwise I’m sure I’d have a fifth negative to talk about, given the way he’s been throwing. It can’t get worse, right? This can only get better?
