The 1981 AL MVP and Cy Young in his first season with the Brewers, Rollie quickly became the face of the club. The face with a handlebar mustache.

For the second game in a row, the Brewers’ offense managed only four hits. Today, those four hits were just enough to win.
Mike Caldwell picked up where he left off. Coming off of a complete game shutout of the Toronto Blue Jays on April 22, Caldwell allowed only a run on six hits in 6 1/3 innings of work today. Though the one fifth inning run he allowed would prevent him from earning the win, he and Rollie Fingers kept the lid on Chicago’s offense long enough to allow the Brewers’ lineup to score one more run.
Card of the Day: 1982 Donruss Rollie Fingers
This card is a reminder of one of the game’s greatest trades. The Brewers sent Sixto Lezcano, Lary Sorenson, and Dave Green to the Cardinals in exchange for Fingers, Pete Vuckovich and Ted Simmons.

ARLINGTON, Tex. — On April 18, the Brewers were 3-6 and had lost their fifth game in a row. Two of the three wins were against the hapless Toronto Blue Jays. Needless to say, it was a jarring start to the season.

ARLINGTON, Tex. — A short week ago, Brewers fans were in panic mode. Starting 3-6, the Crew was struggling in all facets of the game. Starting pitching, relief pitching, offense, and defense. Nothing was working.
Now, this team is looking like a well-oiled machine. After a 4-1 win today, the Brewers have won four straight. During that time, Brewers pitchers have allowed a total of three runs, not giving up more than a single run in a game.
It’s an incredible transformation, but today’s performance by Pete Vuckovich was the exclamation point in the phrase We’re back! Randy Lerch allowed only a run in seven innings to the Blue Jays. Mike Caldwell pitched a shutout. Moose Haas allowed a run in eight innings. Rollie Fingers is back to his dominant self.

ARLINGTON, Tex. — Oh, what a difference a few days will make!
Last week, the Brewers faced these same Rangers in Milwaukee. The Crew was desperate. Defensive flubs and pitching mishaps led to a Rangers sweep and a five-game Brewers losing streak.
But then the Blue Jays came to town and helped raise the Brewers’ spirits. Three games later, Brewers pitchers have allowed a total of two runs and the Brewers are working on a three-game winning streak.
No, the offense isn’t scoring at a mind numbing pace. But that’s why consistent pitching is so important. You won’t always score five or six runs. When you don’t, you still want a chance to win.
